The concert was attended by several old scholars including his sister Helen (and her 4 children), Martin Essex, Colin and Viv Rendall, Chris Thompson, David Sills and Wendy Smith (Arnold).

After Ayton Mathew went to Cheetham’s specialist music school in Manchester and then the Royal Academy of Music in London. His wife Becky is a cellist and they have two little daughters.

He took part in the proms in London last month playing Brandenburg Concertos under Sir John Eliot Gardiner, and is one of four leaders of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment.
